Hello
It has been 25 years since Judy & I started our annual tradition of participating in the Alzheimer Calgary Walk & Run on Thanksgiving Sunday in memory of her mother & 6 other maternal relatives.
When Covid struck, Judy challenged me to go a further running distance & I have kept that up ever since by taking part in organized events around this time & dedicating them in memory of Winnie McIvor. I upped my game and my supporters have kept pace with me.
This year, I've registered for the Lost Soul Ultra Marathon (50 km) in Lethbridge. "In this event, 350 ultra-marathoners race against each other, the elements and the unrelenting 16 hills through the river valley coulees. The elevation gain or loss is approximately 1,100 meters. Although we are on the prairies, our river valley can feel like the Grand Canyon". This is a big challenge for me with goals to finish with a smile on my face, no injuries and hopefully not last in my age category; however I am now at the end of the 60-69 year bracket.
Last year you collectively donated over $7,000 with an average donation of $200. Please know that every donation—big or small—truly helps. The money raised helps to ensure people living with dementia and their care partners have access to vital programs, education, guidance and compassionate support in Calgary. We continue to recommend Alzheimer Calgary to persons each year and the feedback has indicated that this resource has been extremely helpful.
Judy & I are proud of the services offered and that no one needs to face dementia alone. Will you consider supporting my run using the link below & thereby ensuring Alzheimer Calgary is there whether it’s helping someone navigate the early signs of dementia or supporting care partners through the tough days?
Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Judy & Dave
