My Mom passed away late in 2020 after living with dementia for many years. When I needed to empower myself about her diagnosis and what it would take for me to be an effective companion and advocate for her care, I attended an information session at The Confluence (formerly Fort Calgary). The message that I heard that day spoke to my heart and I signed up for more sessions and also to be a volunteer.
The Staff gave me the skills to look after my mother with dignity and grace and understand that it was the disease that was "talking" and not her. And I shared my knowledge with my family which made everyone be able to be a meaningful part of her journey.
And so that others are not alone, your contribution and support is greatly appreciated, whether as a volunteer or a donor.
